What is a Independent variable, dependent variable, and Control? How do I apply them to my science project? So I planted two groups of plants, one group was normally planted, the other the same, except that I sprayed it with insecticide every few days.

OpenStudy (aveline):

The independent variable is the variable that is being manipulated. The dependent variable depends on the manipulation of the independent variable. Controls are groups that are not affected. In your case, the group of plants that was planted normally is called the control group. The plants sprayed with insecticide are part of the experimental group. The independent variable is the insecticide. The dependent variable is how the plant responds to the insecticide. For example, if the plant grows more slowly, the dependent variable is the plant's growth.
