http://www.usatestprep.com/modules/gallery/files/51/5165/5165.png The speed of sound waves through two different media, steel and air, was recorded. According to the graph, sound waves travel A) through steel, but not through air. B) faster through steel than through air. C) faster through air than through steel. D) through steel and air at similar speeds.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

@Blu_Seaa This seems to be straight forward, do you get the answer?

OpenStudy (blu_seaa):

I think it's B but I'm not sure.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Just look at the speed of the sound axis, for steel it's some value and for air it's another. Could you write the value for speed of sound in air and steel here?

OpenStudy (blu_seaa):

http://www.usatestprep.com/modules/gallery/files/51/5165/5165.png This is the value of both if that's what you're talking about.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Please type the values here from the graph attached.

OpenStudy (blu_seaa):

Do you mean Steel being 10 and Air being 7 for their value ? I'm sorry but I'm confused.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

no problem, look carefully at the bar for steel, it seems to be a different value than 10. For air you're right it's 7.

OpenStudy (blu_seaa):

Oh I'm sorry I meant 20.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

you're right, so sound of speed is more in?

OpenStudy (blu_seaa):

Steel.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Yep, so you have the answer now?

OpenStudy (blu_seaa):

A?

OpenStudy (ash2326):

how do you say A? Speed of sound in steel- 20, in air it's 10. I would definitely say that sound travels in air based on speed and in real life that's how you are able to talk to your friends...:P

OpenStudy (blu_seaa):

I just finished taking the test and it said B was the answer.

OpenStudy (blu_seaa):

I said that before.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Were you taking a test? was it graded?

OpenStudy (blu_seaa):

Yes.

OpenStudy (blu_seaa):

A practice test.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

okay,

OpenStudy (blu_seaa):

Thank you for your help.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

No Problem :)
