HELP! Will fan and medal (and leave testimonial too) Below are the data collected from two random samples of 500 American adults on the number of hours they work per day (rounded to the nearest hour): Ryan concludes that adults spend a mean of 8 hours working each day. Malia thinks the mean is 9 hours. Who is correct—Ryan or Malia? Explain your answer in two or three sentences. Make sure to use facts to support your answer.

Number of hours of work per day 6 7 8 9 10 Sample A: Number of adults 60 90 145 150 55 Sample B: Number of adults 70 80 140 145 65

Yes thank you I was trying to pull it up but I can't find it XD

@welshfella

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you supposed to combine the samples?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or consider them separately?

OpenStudy (blm1):

I'm not sure my question was all I copyed and pasted. @ColbyMcCreery put the sample table for me but that's what I'm using.

OpenStudy (blm1):

*copied

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya and im glad to put that up for u

OpenStudy (blm1):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so what its saying isd to add the first number of sample a to the first number to sample b then round it to the hour and so on

OpenStudy (blm1):

Wait I'm confused :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

basically, you need to find a weighted average. from sample A, 60 people worked 6 hours from sample B, 70 people worked 6 hours So the total number of people working 6 hours is 130. You need to find the total number of people working each set of hours by adding the A and B samples together. This is the first step

OpenStudy (blm1):

Ok so for 6-130 | 7-170 | 8-285 | 9-295 | 10-120

OpenStudy (blm1):

Now what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then multiply those sums by the hours and add them all up. This gives the total amount of hours worked by everyone in the two samples. 6(130) + 7(170) + 8(285) + ... and so on

OpenStudy (blm1):

Now I have 780-1,190-2,280-2,655-1,200

OpenStudy (blm1):

=8,105

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now do 8105/1000 because there were 1000 people in the combined samples. This is the mean they're asking you for

OpenStudy (blm1):

8.105

OpenStudy (blm1):

So the answer is 8 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

OpenStudy (blm1):

Oh my goodness you are my best friend (btw I love peach pie) THANK YOU!!!!!
