will medal. Molly walked 3.45 miles on a hike. Her sister walked 1.23 miles. Her brother walked 0.85 miles. Round each distance to the nearest tenth of a mile. About how much farther did Molly walk than her brother and sister combined? A. about 1.2 miles B. about 1.4 miles C. about 2.2 miles D. about 2.4 miles

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Let's start by rounding then For 3.45, what would that round up to?

OpenStudy (katherinkoon):

i don't know

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

Let's do an example: Let's take the numbers 9.58 and 8.24 What you want to do is check the last number. For 9.58, the last number is 8 Next you want to see if that number is less than five, or if it's equal or greater than 5. In this case, it is greater. If it is greater, we want to take the number that is left of the 8 and add one to it, while getting rid of the 8. 9.58 rounds to 9.6 (We added one to the 5, which was left of the 8. We also got rid of the 8) For 8.24, the last number is 4. This time though, the number to the left is 2 and that number is less than 5. So we simply just get rid of the 4, making it 8.2

OpenStudy (katherinkoon):

wait so i'm guessing the answer is C

OpenStudy (katherinkoon):

am i right

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

How'd you get answer choice C?

OpenStudy (katherinkoon):

guessing
