OpenStudy (airyana1114):

I need help finding the maximum y-value of a function without graphing it.

OpenStudy (airyana1114):

f(x) = 2cos(x)

OpenStudy (photon336):

@airyana1114 \[y = 2\cos(x) \] I think the maximum height would be 2

OpenStudy (photon336):

we can use the unit circle to figure this out. |dw:1460665376376:dw|

OpenStudy (photon336):

so right away we know that cosine's maximum value is going to be 1 from the unit circle, and we multiply that by 2 the number in front of the equation to get the maximum value

OpenStudy (airyana1114):

oh okay, thank you :)
