OpenStudy (pphalke):

Malcolm paid an average of $31 per tie for a recent purchase of three ties. The price of one tie was twice as much as another, and the remaining tie cost $24, what were the prices of the other two ties?

OpenStudy (yinshy):

any guesses?

OpenStudy (pphalke):

no idea

OpenStudy (fortytherapper):

So there were 3 ties 1 was $24 and we have to find the price of the other 2. So in order to find average, we have to add all 3 numbers and then divide by 3, right? So what can we do to find the total price of all of the ties?
