OpenStudy (ttop0816):

Please help!! :( How would increasing the pressure shift the equilibrium of the following reaction? Zn(s) + 2HCl(aq) ----> ZnCl2(aq) + H2(g) Answer: It would cause the forward reaction to happen more rapidly. It would cause the reverse reaction to happen more rapidly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Increasing the pressure mean decreasing volume So reaction going to where is more volume for equilibrium again!

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

Increasing the pressure correlates to increasing the concentration of H2 gas therefore do to the induced stress on the products the system will shift to the left (reactants) to relieve the stress.

OpenStudy (explorerhills):

yes, it follows Le Chatelier's principle.
