help please
@Vocaloid
So the first thing you need to do for this assignment is read a story..
The story you need to read is "The Strangers that came to town" by Ambrose Flack.
what else?
i mean, what are you asked to do?
You need to Write a paragraph explaining the main conflict and the perspectives of the protagonist and antagonist. Be sure your paragraph : -mentions the title and author in the first sentence -briefly summarizes the plot -identifies the main conflict -describes the protagonist’s perspective on the conflict -provides a line of dialogue that the protagonist says to support your idea (text support) -describes the antagonist’s perspective of the conflict -provide a line of dialogue that the antagonist says to support your idea (text support) -includes a closing line to summarize the character’s views -uses correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling
well, have you read the story yet? do you understand what's going on?
and ill tell you who the protagonist and antagonist is.. so you dont have to figure that out..
this might be helpful https://prezi.com/bu5hyb000ubg/the-strangers-that-came-to-town/
it wont.. can you please help.. i need you to read the story in order to write the paragraph and understand it.
alright, give me ~ 10-15 minutes
ok :) why so long?
when you take your time and process all the details, then the better you understand what's going on
ok.. but please make sure you come back when you finish reading the story.. you got the story right?
yeah of course
ok :)
well, in your own words, what do you think the main plot is?
in other words... what is the story about? what are the most important characters + events?
i dont really know..
did you finish reading the story?
yes. have you read the story?
Who is the main character?
Andy which is the protagonist
good, who is the antagonist?
its not a person, its more of an idea.. its that the townspeople were prejudice.
sure, we could go with that perspective so, let's describe the plot. if you had the describe the story to somebody who hadn't read it, what would you say? what is the story about?
(if you are unsure, I would suggest reading the story again to make sure you really understand what's going on)
i dont know the plot..
can you answer the question "what is the story about?" if not, please read the story again, slowly and carefully.
you should be able to tell me: Who? (who are the important characters?) What? (what happens?) When? (when does the story take place?) Where? (where does the story take place?) and Why? (why do the characters do what they do? why do the events in the story happen?)
those are lots of questions... i have ideas.. but can we get on to writing the paragraph please.. im going to fail if i dont.. we can asnwer these questions later please.. i need this assignment done in 7minutes.. if not i fail :(
I'll ask you again... what is the story about?
plot = "what is the story about?"
its about a family coming to town
they're moving in to town ..
good, just be a little more specific. what are their names? what are they like?
its the duvitches i believe.. they are curious i think
good, now what's the main conflict? (what is the "problem"?)
hint: Andy does something bad to the Duvitch family. what does he do and why? why is it bad?
he takes the fish i think.. something about fish
he poisons them. why does he do it? and how do you think he feels?
i dont know why he does it but he feels really bad..
can you name a specific piece of dialogue that shows this?
um.. ? idk
skim through the story. can you name something Andy said? something that shows how he feels about the Duvitch?
is this a good paragrpah?
The Strangers That Came to Town, by Ambrose Flack, is a short narrative story narrated from the point of view, Andy, describing the problems of a foreign family, the Duvitches. The protagonist, Andy, didn't feel most of the conflict the Duvitches experienced but he saw how they were treated. The antagonists hadn't given the new family a chance so they saw the Duvitches as useless, poor, disrespected people. When the Duvitches first came the community was against them. They were poor and meek unlike the rest of the town. Andy becomes really involved with the outsiders after he poisons the mess of their fish. The moral at the end of their story is to not judge a person (or people in this case) without getting to know them. The protagonist is Andy, and his view of the conflict between the community and the Duvitches is how he recognizes how they are being treated. “Even the tradesmen to whom the Duvitches gave good money were either curt with them or downright rude. Mrs. Frithjof Kinsella, the proprietor of the general store and a big jolly Viking who could be heard two blocks away, extended credit to almost everybody in town and had a way of insulting her customers so heartily that they all loved her for it. The Duvitches, however, Mrs. Kinsella very carefully did not insult (a form of insult in itself) and neither did she extend them credit.” This quote also describes how most of the community acted towards the Duvitches. The main conflict was the actions of the town’s peoples’ and how the Duvitches responded.
looks good did you write that yourself? it's pretty good!
yup
good. I'm not sure why you had so much trouble at the beginning
