Is all forms of energy quantized or only electromagnetic ?
quantisized
i spelled wrong. Quantized
here this should be helpful http://www.kentchemistry.com/links/AtomicStructure/PlanckQuantized.htm
My textbook says that the light energy is quantized and can exist only in multiples of \(hf\). Where \(h\) is planck constant and \(f\) is the frequency of light. I'm wondering what are the implications of this to other forms of energy...
that staircase is an interesting analogy of quantization, thank you for sharing @habbababba1
anytime man
r u hindu?
Yes
i thought so i am too
oh well have a nice day
@Qwertty123 nonconstant light velocity is a crazy concept ! I think we may need to throw away most of our science if the speed of light in vacuum is not constant hmm. For now, I'm more interested in quantization of energy. Lets look at speed of light some other time may be :)
okay :)
I agree with you BTW! Some of this Science stuff is crazy..
i was thinking about all this, in a vague half baked way... calculus is so effective in dealing with natural phenomenon because we observe them to continuous, like the motion of planets, work done etc etc so if everything is quantized, what are the implications?.. that calculus is not the appropriate tool?
observe them to be*
Haha ofcourse! when somebody says that you're a wave, you must think he is crazy! I don't think QM says that space is quantized though...
From this it says http://www.livescience.com/33816-quantum-mechanics-explanation.html
Oh if all of forms of energy is quantized then the heat energy and its measure temperature is also quantized and calculus should fail ?
Great question! Let me think here..
no
What do you mean by energy is quantised? Light is quantised in the sense every light beam of frequency \(f\) is carried by photons of energy \(E=hf\) but the frequency \(f\) is continuous and I think all frequencies can be generated via appropriate means.
That is an interesting point. Since the frequency is continuous, we can get any arbitrary value for the photon energy by choosing the appropriate frequency hmm
Yes you can. Black-body radiation generates a continuous spectrum. It is only that the energy of light comes in quanta, not that we can only have quantised amounts of energy.
