How does nick describe himself at the beginning of the book?

nick began the story by telling us that he does not pass judgement on people.He says it is a trait passes on to him by his father.nick comes from a upper class background .His father used to tell him to remember the advantages before passing judgement .Nick feels that because of his accepting personality ,people feel comfortable sharing confidential details of there lives.
