If you mean an example of treachery in a piece of literature, the first thing that comes into my mind are the plays Julius Caesar and Othello. In Julius Caesar, his most loyal friend betrayed him because he did not want a tyrant to rule while in Othello, a person who is somewhat a friend to Othello betrays him by setting up an elaborate scheme to make him believe his lover is cheating on him.
