as I've shown in your last problem, they can occur making a vertical asymptote. Go back to the graph with the red dashed line. Also you could have points that are open holes like this http://www.drcruzan.com/Images/Mathematics/RationalFunctions/HoleExampleFigure2.png which also has asymptotes as well
