OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

I know without the 1/20% it is 8.50 x 11, which is 93.5, but what do I do, I am not very well at muti-steps.

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

@563blackghost

OpenStudy (mrnood):

can you write the percentage of the smallest size as a decimal? (e.g. if it was allowed to be 1% smaller then the sides would be .99 of the nominal)

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

I still need help, what do i do to get the answer, did I do the steps wrong, what do I do to the sides to make is 1/20% Smaller, do I find out 1/20 first then convert it do decimal?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

it is 1/20 % (not 1/20) write 1/20 % as a decimal

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

1/20 = 0.05. / 100 is 0.0005%. now what?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

ok so that is the proportion by which the smallest side can vary from the nominal so the smallest card is .9995 times the size of the nominal ON EACH SIDE So the area of the smallest card is 8.5 * .9995 * 11*.9995 OK?

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

:D Thank you, so how do we get the nominal .9995, I never learned about that yet? So, it is 93.406523375

OpenStudy (mrnood):

it tells you that the nominal is 8.5 x 11 inches 1.20% is .0005 so the card can be 1-.0005 x the nominal = .9995 * nominal

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

.. o..

OpenStudy (mrnood):

ALSO note the question asks you to round th e answer to the nearest 1/1000 sq in

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

ok!

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

question, how do you round to 1/1000

OpenStudy (mrnood):

which figure after the decimal point represents 1/1000 ths?

OpenStudy (misssmartiez):

Oh I see.was on another question, hard...
