If a^5 < b^5, which of the following must be true? 1. a < b 2. a^4 < b^4 3. I a I < I b I Explain why?

OpenStudy (freckles):

so have you seen what would happen if you try two negative numbers, or a negative number and maybe 0 out? like see which inequalities work provided a^5<b^5 is true

OpenStudy (korosh23):

The problem with this question is that it did not mention which of the a or b is positive or negative. If we consider a = 2 and b = 3 2 < 3 the correct answer would be 1
