OpenStudy (pphalke):

i keep getting these ones wrong please help

OpenStudy (pphalke):

OpenStudy (pphalke):

how do you turn a-2b=2 into an x y equation?

OpenStudy (atrineas):

a is y b is x from what I could see

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you go on to mathway and type in one than the other and hit graph it will give you the answer

OpenStudy (pphalke):

so it will turn into y-2x=2?

OpenStudy (pphalke):

accoding to the homework whatever graph i drew comes wrong help me!!

OpenStudy (pphalke):

i have one more chance please help

OpenStudy (pphalke):

i know that a=1/2b+5 is set on the graph according to desmos at (0,5) and (-10,0) but the other a-2b=2 how do i turn that into x y

OpenStudy (pphalke):

@phi @kyleighlauren357 @KmanBro96

OpenStudy (phi):

look at your graph. notice they labeled the sideways (horizontal ) axis a (usually we use x)

OpenStudy (phi):

if its less confusing, you can rename a to x and b to y

OpenStudy (pphalke):

i did that @phi and it showed me y-2x=2 but when i went to put it it says i am wrong

OpenStudy (triciaal):

as stated let a = y and b = x to do by graphing graph each line then see the interscetion easy to use the intercepts line 1 when x = 0 y = 5 when y = 0 then 0 = 1/2(x) + 5 so b = -10 line 2 when x = 0 y = 2 when y = 0 then 0 = 2 x + 2 so x = -1

OpenStudy (pphalke):

i dont understand still so the second equation would be 0=2x+2 i need one to enter in desmos i know that a=1/2b+5 comes right but the second one

OpenStudy (pphalke):

what line would i graph first @triciaal

OpenStudy (triciaal):

point of intersection is (2, 6)

OpenStudy (pphalke):

what two points do i need for that

OpenStudy (triciaal):

does not matter which is done first

OpenStudy (pphalke):

but what would the points be (0,5) and ??

OpenStudy (pphalke):

is (0,5) one point i need to graph and what is the other? @triciaal @phi

OpenStudy (triciaal):

a = 1/2 b + 5 a = 2 b + 2 to solve using algebra set the a's equal 1/2 b + 5 = 2 b + 2 3/2 (b) = 3 b = 2 a = 2 (2 ) + 2 = 6

OpenStudy (pphalke):

just tell me is (0,5) one point?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

(x, y) line 1 (0,5) (-10, 0) do the same for line 2 from what I gave you above the lines should cross at (2, 6)

OpenStudy (triciaal):

yes (0, 5) is one point for line 1 when x is 0 y = 5

OpenStudy (pphalke):

i did plot (0,5) and (-10,0) what is line 2 and how do iget it???

OpenStudy (kyleighlauren357):

yes, since the first equation already solved for a, solve the second one for a too. just think of a as y and b as x if it helps. just get a on one side by itself.

OpenStudy (pphalke):

how do i do that??? what do i do for line 2

OpenStudy (triciaal):

review what I have above line 2 pick up the 2 points ( when x = 0 what is y and when y = 0 what is x ) and graph them

OpenStudy (pphalke):

for line 2 i get (0,0) ????

OpenStudy (kyleighlauren357):

well since you have a-2b=2 get a by itself. so add +2b to the other side then it will be a=2b+2

OpenStudy (kyleighlauren357):

so now you just need to graph a=2b+2 and a= 1/2b+5 if it helps think about it like this// y=2x+2 and y= 1/2x +5

OpenStudy (pphalke):

i got one point down and it needs to meet with (2,6) hw do i do that and make the second line so it crosses (2,6)

OpenStudy (kyleighlauren357):

now to find the solution find the points that they intersect or cross at. you need to graph both of the equations before you try to find the solution

OpenStudy (pphalke):

i dont get it!! what point do i need in order for this to hit (2,6) i got the first down plzzzzzz

OpenStudy (pphalke):

first point plotted need help to plot point 2 in order to intercept at (2,6) check plzzzzzzzzzzzz

OpenStudy (kyleighlauren357):

okay plot the next equation. y=1/2b+5 so count up 5 on y axis and make a point then the slope is 1/2 so from 5 count up 1 and to the right 2 and make another point

OpenStudy (pphalke):

thats what i put into desmos and it gave me (0,5) and (-10,0) how do i make a-2b=2 into something i can put in desmos

OpenStudy (kyleighlauren357):

try typing the equation as a=2b+2

OpenStudy (pphalke):

i get (0,2) and (-1,0)

OpenStudy (pphalke):

my graph

OpenStudy (kyleighlauren357):

you should be getting (6,2)

OpenStudy (pphalke):

as the second point?

OpenStudy (kyleighlauren357):

thats all. there is only 1 solution because the lines cross only 1 time

OpenStudy (kyleighlauren357):

so (6,2) is the point where the 2 lines meet

OpenStudy (kyleighlauren357):

does that make sense?

OpenStudy (pphalke):

this is what is the answeer i did it wrong :((

OpenStudy (kyleighlauren357):

you were sooo close iit okay good job you tried (:

OpenStudy (pphalke):

nooooo its giving me chances i hate this one

OpenStudy (kyleighlauren357):

its okay dont give up
