MEDAL AND FAN Which sequence of transformations will produce similar but not congruent figures? Choose all answers that are correct. A. Figure PQRST is rotated 180° counterclockwise around the origin and then translated 4 units right and 2 units down. B. Figure PQRST is translated 9 units right and then reflected across the x-axis. C. Figure PQRST is dilated by a scale factor of 3.7 and then translated 2 units up. D. Figure PQRST is rotated 90° counterclockwise around the origin and then dilated by a scale factor of 0.5.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Rules 1) Rotations will preserve the size and shape of the figure. If you rotate figure A to get figure B, then figure A is congruent to figure B 2) Similar to rule 1 above, but just replace "rotation" with "reflection" 3) Similar to rule 1, but replace "rotation" with "translation" 4) Dilations do NOT preserve the size of the figure. Dilations either make the figure smaller or bigger. If you dilate figure A to get figure B, then figure A is NOT congruent to figure B. However, figure A will be similar to figure B since they have the same basic shape.

@jim_thompson5910 sorry, my brother was using my computer, but I chose B and C because those two were dilated, and I got it right so thank you again!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

`Figure PQRST is translated 9 units right and then reflected across the x-axis.` I don't see dilation anywhere in there

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

` C.` `Figure PQRST is dilated by a scale factor of 3.7 and then translated 2 units up.` ` D.` `Figure PQRST is rotated 90° counterclockwise around the origin and then dilated by a scale factor of 0.5.` those two have dilations so they would make the new figure incongruent to the old figure.

OpenStudy (pugtato):

Oh I'm so sorry, I accidentally put B, I meant to put C and D haha at least I entered the right answer on my assignment
