OpenStudy (meowimacat):

I need help! It would be appreciated :D How do I find the x intercepts of the function? f(x) = –16x^2 + 60x + 16 Part A: What are the x-intercepts of the graph of the f(x)? Show your work.

OpenStudy (ashchu117):

Try using Geogebra

OpenStudy (meowimacat):

But... but... okay.. If anyone can help me here that would be great.

OpenStudy (gniiij):

i can help

OpenStudy (gniiij):

do you still need it?

OpenStudy (meowimacat):

YES!!!!

OpenStudy (gniiij):

ok so first you want to factor the expression

OpenStudy (gniiij):

remembering that you need to factor out the GCF out also

OpenStudy (meowimacat):

the gcf is -8 right? And my computer is slow, sorry

OpenStudy (gniiij):

no problem. the GCF is not -8, give it another shot

OpenStudy (meowimacat):

oh crap, I googled it and was looking at the wrong problem -_- damn.... Soo, would it be 4??

OpenStudy (gniiij):

-4

OpenStudy (gniiij):

so now take that out and factor the rest

OpenStudy (meowimacat):

oh..... is that it?

OpenStudy (gniiij):

no

OpenStudy (gniiij):

i am walking you through it

OpenStudy (meowimacat):

du, sorry, Im really tired.

OpenStudy (gniiij):

so factor that out

OpenStudy (gniiij):

and send me your answer for that

OpenStudy (meowimacat):

when you factor out the gcf its 4x^2+15x+4 right? And I suck at factoring...

OpenStudy (gniiij):

no when you factor it out it is -4(x-4)(4x+1)

OpenStudy (gniiij):

do you understand how i got there?

OpenStudy (meowimacat):

somewhat.... Not really. Im really bad at algebra, Im so sorry.

OpenStudy (gniiij):

ok so I factored out the GCF

OpenStudy (gniiij):

right?

OpenStudy (meowimacat):

right, I think. Yeah. Did you do more than that?

OpenStudy (gniiij):

yes, then i factored out the rest

OpenStudy (meowimacat):

okay... that makes sense... So what is it when you just take out the gcf? Sorry, im trying to understand it better....

OpenStudy (gniiij):

it goes from –16x^2 + 60x + 16 to--->4x^2-15x-4

OpenStudy (gniiij):

then you want to factor 4x^2-15x-4

OpenStudy (gniiij):

I have to leave now

OpenStudy (gniiij):

but ill post what you do after you factor it

OpenStudy (gniiij):

then you want to set the GCF and the stuff in the parenthesis equal to 0

OpenStudy (gniiij):

and you should get 4, 4, and -1/4

OpenStudy (meowimacat):

Okay, thank you :) I appreciate it!
