OpenStudy (theyankee):

"Collective bargaining is a process of negotiation between employees and a group of employers aimed at agreements to regulate working salaries" Basically, workers and business owners have to come to an consensus on a fair wage, where as, in the past, owners simply offered a certain paycheck and the workers couldn't say anything about it. Therefore, owners had to pay workers better and fairly as apposed to not being regulated and paying poor wages.
