WILL FAN & MEDAL!! What would you expect to happen to the energy while a piece of paper is burning? There would be more energy before the paper is burned than after the paper is burned. There would be more energy after the paper is burned than before the paper is burned. The amount of energy before and after the burning paper depends on the heat of the flame. There is the same amount of energy before the paper is burned and after the paper is burned.

The molecules making up the paper and the oxygen of the air contain chemical energy in their bonds. When the paper is burnt , carbon dioxide and water are formed. These contain much less chemical energy, so the difference is lost to the surroundings as heat and light. You can now know the right answer..
