OpenStudy (eyesnapper):

Does Polystyrene (PS) float in heated water? For example, does Styrofoam?

OpenStudy (eyesnapper):

@Kainui @ganeshie8

OpenStudy (eyesnapper):

Also, would it deform?

OpenStudy (stmoney):

density is determined by mass/volume. The density of water will not change until a phase change (water-->ice).

OpenStudy (eyesnapper):

how about the deforming?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

Density does change with temperature as intermolecular bonds weaken or strengthen with the addition/removal of heat. I don't think I have ever seen Polystyrene sink in water.

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

If you put a foam cup in boiling water in may definitely deform though.

OpenStudy (eyesnapper):

Thank you.
