OpenStudy (ellamoyseyuk):

What is the value of x in the figure below?http://cdn.activelms.com/data/042c73b1-ddf5-4fd6-91e7-6c8434228f3d/Geometry%20Images/unit%207-5%20q6.png a) 3 b) 8 c) 6 d) 12

OpenStudy (ellamoyseyuk):

Is b)8 correct?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so you can calculi it in so much different ways how you get 8 ?

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

let this altitude being h so than you can writing using the theorem of altitude from the right angle on hypotenuse h^2 = (x+1)(x+4) from this right triangle on the left part you can writing h^2 = (2x)^2 -(x+4)^2 from this right triangle on the right part you can writing h^2 = 12^2 -(x+1)^2 so there are so much equations what you can using to calculi the value of x ok ?

Directrix (directrix):

This the theorem at work here: Triangle Angle Bisector Theorem: If a ray bisects an angle of a triangle, then it divides the opposite side into segments that are proportional to the sides that formed the angle.

Directrix (directrix):

2x is to 12 as (x + 4) is to (x + 1) Solve this for x: |dw:1461797580766:dw|
