Do you think women should have been able to vote based on the language in 15th Amendment? Why was it necessary to amend the Constitution by ratifying the 19th Amendment? i know the 15th amendment gave male citizens the right to vote the 19th amendment gave female citzens the right to vote but i dont get these two questions
well, no, i don't think they should have been able to vote, based on the language of the 15th amendment at least. at that point in time, women weren't really considered citizens. while this may be sexist and unfair today, they simply didn't see it that way at the time, as women didn't work, didn't (really) get higher education, and weren't really considered in a lot of decisions at the time. even African american men were still considered men, if lesser men at that.
it was necessary to ratify the 19th amendment in order to fully realize the fact that women were truly a part of American civilization, and they weren't just brainless houswives
thank you soooo much!
no big deal :)
