Subsitute
$5.50 = 3e + 2($3.50-2e)
$5.50 = 3e + $7.00 -4e
-$1.50 = -e
e = $1.50
Resubstitute
$5.50 = 3($1.50) + 2t
$5.50 = $4.50 + 2t
$1.00 = 2t
t = $0.50

Eggs are $1.50 each, toast is $0.50 each.
