Please help

OpenStudy (lollylau):

How can we help you?

OpenStudy (helpkay):

could someone walk me thought this i know mostly how to do it i just need to make sure i'm doing it right

OpenStudy (helpkay):

so you would do 5-2 and 480-225 right

OpenStudy (lollylau):

A: we are given two points (2, 225) and (5, 480) where x represents number of days and y represents cost. ASSUMING a linear relation, we obtain the equation y = 85x + 55 via an equation of choice

OpenStudy (lollylau):

Yes

OpenStudy (helpkay):

255/3

OpenStudy (lollylau):

B follows immediately if you let y be a function of x

OpenStudy (helpkay):

? and how did you get y = 85x + 55

OpenStudy (lollylau):

via two-point form: \[y-225=\frac{480-225}{5-2}(x-2)\]

OpenStudy (helpkay):

@LollyLau ok i see what you did but I never done it that way before i always been tough you take you x and your y and subtract you y and subtract your for your x and your y for your y like this 5-2 480-225 then you dived the number so 3/255 which is 85 did i do it right so he would have to pay 85 dollars for x days

OpenStudy (lollylau):

$85x for x days, plus a base charge.

OpenStudy (helpkay):

how do i find the base charge

OpenStudy (helpkay):

Please help @LollyLau

OpenStudy (lollylau):

y-intercept

OpenStudy (helpkay):

how can i find that

OpenStudy (helpkay):

@LollyLau

OpenStudy (lollylau):

y = mx + c c is the y-intercept i.e. when x is 0

OpenStudy (helpkay):

i know that but i forget how you find C

OpenStudy (lollylau):

Substitute x = 0.

OpenStudy (helpkay):

so84 x 0 =c ?

OpenStudy (lollylau):

Substitute x = 0, the resulting y will be the y-intercept.

OpenStudy (helpkay):

I still don't get it sorry

OpenStudy (lollylau):

y = 85x + 55 When x = 0, y = 85(0) + 55 y = 55

OpenStudy (helpkay):

but where did the 55 come from

OpenStudy (lollylau):

From the equation previously obtained.

OpenStudy (helpkay):

i'm sorry but i'm just not getting it

OpenStudy (lollylau):

Remember I did a two-point form before?

OpenStudy (helpkay):

yes but you had 3 and 255 so how did you get 55 i get you got the 85 by 3/255

OpenStudy (helpkay):

sorry 255/3

OpenStudy (helpkay):

I have to go i will fan you and if you are on here when i come back i will need your help

OpenStudy (lollylau):

Alright cheers
