OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

I need help on Part E. Done everything else though. Statistics sigh..///\\\\\ Here is an explanation of the variable abbreviations. • MLB – Major League Baseball • NL – National League • AL – American League • W – Wins • HR – Home Runs • OBP – On Base Percentage – the proportion of times a team’s players reach base safely in a plate appearance. • ERA – Earned Run Average – the mean number of runs allowed per 9 innings for the team’s pitchers. • SO – Strike Outs @ganeshie8

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Based on your results from part A. Which variable is most highly correlated with a team’s wins during a season and why?

@mathmale can you try to help her?

OpenStudy (reemii):

From the two equations (W = 60.... +0.13HR, W = -144... +710...OBP), I would say OBP is more highly correlated. Because the line has a slope "seriously" different from zero. So "high OBP" imlpies "high W". From the correlation coefficients, you can see that OBP has a higher "R" index. From the R-sq, you can see that OBP's value (0.7....) is far greater than HR's value (0.2...) These three things are arguments for choosing OBP as the variable that explains best the Win.
