Why did President Kennedy choose the option he did? ( To blockade Cuba). I know that one of the reasons was to avoid a nuclear war but I don't know another one

You are right that it was to prevent nuclear war. Nuclear weapons were found stockpiled on Cuba from the Soviet Union and the blockade was to prevent anyone from entering or leaving the country. The missiles were very close to the US which, for obvious reasons, was a bad thing. You answered the question I think you just needed a bit more detail.  ☺
