What change was often seen in the physical arrangement of plantations after the Civil War?

OpenStudy (mahoganie.carson):

Welcome to Open Study Before the war plantations were operated as mostly self-sufficient, centrally directed units. The changed labor arrangements after the war resulted in land being rented out, sharecropped or broken up as economically non-viable. Reconstruction governments often demanded that property taxes be paid in cash instead of agricultural products; this had the effect of forcibly breaking up large, cash-poor plantations. hopes this helps ^_^
