How do you feel about dating/marrying outside of your religion?
The Bible says not to be unequally yoked so I would not marry someone outside my religion.
Many, though not all, religions prohibit or heavily discourage interfaith marriages. These prohibitions are usually based on two dangers: 1. Believers being drawn away from their faith 2. Children not being brought up in the faith To deal with the second danger, religions that do allow their members to marry people of other faiths often require that the children be brought up in their own members’ faith. Dealing with the first danger is even more complicated. And yet, despite both religious and social strictures, interfaith marriages have become increasingly common in recent decades.
dead set against it :) can't be with someone with different beliefs
> can't be with someone with different beliefs Quoting Anaise, this is true. Psychologists who study married people, actually say the common saying, "opposites attract" is not true for married people. The marriages that are happy generally have spouses that share the sames beliefs, etc. I am going to go out on a limb to speak from a personal experience, but I have a friend who's father is Jewish, and mother a Christian, he himself says he has not a single religious bone in his body. Continuing from there interfaith marriages most likely do not have a stress on faith, seeing it probably more as a cultural thing, rather than really religious. As for religious forbidding marriages because of different faith, that is mostly Abrahamic (excluding Bahá'í Faith). The majority of religions do not really deal with such cases, and have no rulings against them. (Then again these religious are usually smaller, and less common.)
Thank you all <3 can I get your opinion on this relationship A Jehovah's Witness with a Wiccan....total different beliefs how would you view that?
Imo, those two religions would not mix at all. Maybe for a friendship, but not for a serious relationship.
> those two religions would not mix at all Religions are not suppose to mix, that is generally called heresy when it happens. (Do not get me wrong here though, adapting things like negative theology from Judaism into say Islam is OK (though Islam has had something like it anyway), as long as orthodox principles such as the definition of God, and His attributes are preserved.) As for a serious relationship, I find myself in platonic love with a Jewish man though I am not Jewish, and sadly he is dead. Religions do not have to inhibit your love or admiration toward anyone. The issue is marriage, and its validity when it comes to religious law. Most religious do not recognize interfaith marriages because they do not allow them. > A Jehovah's Witness with a Wiccan....total different beliefs how would you view that? I do not have a preference on other people's morals, they can do what they wish seeing as neither are my religion. However in terms ow Jehovah's Witness culture, interfaith marriages are common. Not sure about Wicca. I must note, while it is common, the practice of interfaith marriage for Jehovah's Witness is generally discouraged.
