OpenStudy (pujan20):

need to find proton and electron of Al-2 i dont get it plz explain :)

OpenStudy (giannabaroni):

Hi(: are they asking for the number of protons and electrons?

OpenStudy (giannabaroni):

and does the dash mean that there are two aluminum atoms?

OpenStudy (giannabaroni):

If so, then the atomic number of Aluminum is 13 which means that one atom of Aluminum has 13 protons and in an atom, the number of protons and electrons are the same so there would also be 13 electrons in one atom. If there are two atoms, just multiply them by two and get 26 protons and 26 electrons.

OpenStudy (mos1635):

Al-2 probably means ion with -2 charge....

OpenStudy (physics_dude99):

If it is a minus 2 charge that means the Aluminum has 13 protons, but 15 or two extra electrons for a net -2 charge.
