OpenStudy (brekathleen):

identify the vertex of y= -2x^2-12x+1

OpenStudy (abdullahm):

The vertex of an equation in the form of ax^2 + bx + c is (\Large\bf (-\frac{b}{2a},f(-\frac{b}{2a}))\) First you plug in the values of b and a into -b/2a. That will give you the x-coordinate. Once you get the x-coordinate, you plug that into the equation to get you the y-coordinate.
