It was A right. The best option would be that A. The federal government would increasingly play a role in American lives going forward," since it was clear that many laws (especially those regarding civil rights) needed to be rigidly enforced.

A would be right, yeah. The over controlling union had to be sure confederates didn't go against laws again, specifically with those regarding states rights and tax tariffs.
