OpenStudy (august899):

Find the length of b to the nearest tenth. (Picture included)

OpenStudy (august899):

OpenStudy (anthonyym):

This is a right triangle, so you can use the trig ratios (sine, cosine, tangent). Are you familiar with them?

OpenStudy (august899):

Yes. I'm not sure which one to use though.

563blackghost (563blackghost):

|dw:1462322707956:dw| Since we know of the hypotenuse and we want to know of the opposite side we would use the trig ratio; sin..... \(\huge{\sin(x)=\frac{opposite}{hypotenuse}\rightarrow \sin(60)=\frac{b}{2}}\) Since the known number is in the denominator we would multiply it by sin... \(\Huge{2 \times \sin(60)=x}\)

OpenStudy (august899):

So 2*0.86=1.72,Is this correct?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

That would be correct ^^

OpenStudy (august899):

And to the tenth is it 1.7?

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Correct ^^
