Why would it be a problem if your household appliances were connected in a series circuit?

If the resistors are placed in a series, if one goes out, current can no longer flow through that point, thus stopping the entire circuit. This is why Parallel circuits are usually used because it creates multiple paths for the current to flow, and if one goes out, the current can still pass through the other resistors.
