OpenStudy (mollykenney):

find the focus and directrix of the parabola with the equation 4x^2 + 10y = 0

OpenStudy (lunymoony):

where is "the parabola"?

OpenStudy (mollykenney):

i have to graph the parabola but to do so i need the focus

OpenStudy (runner01):

b a d thing the answer is a

Nnesha (nnesha):

are you good at *completing the square* method ??

OpenStudy (mollykenney):

no

OpenStudy (mollykenney):

well yes but i don't know how i would use it with this specific problem

Nnesha (nnesha):

first we have to rewrite the equation in vertex form \[\large\rm y=a(x-h)^2+k\] where (h,k) is the center |dw:1462381528084:dw| the line (axis of symmetry) splits the parabola in half . any point( which is equal distance away from vertex) on this line would represent the focus of this parabola
