How did the collapse of the Soviet Union impact China? (The Tiananmen Square protest in general)
Did the collapse of the Soviet Union inspire the Democracy movement in Beijing of 1989?
Some Chinese citizens deplored the incident at Tiananmen Square, and believed that the massacre of peaceful protesters was deplorable, and was done with such brutal force as to not inspire any further protests by citizens. However, the period of relative political stability, order and economic growth that resulted after the crackdown from 1990 till 2012 saw steadily rising Chinese standards of living, with over 663 million Chinese citizens lifted out of poverty. Trust and legitimacy of the Chinese government also remained high and has been increasing over the past 4 years. It also found that most of the Chinese people were satisfied with their Government and feel that their country is moving in the right direction.
