both quadrilaterls rely on the idea of base times perpendicular height,,,

so is the side of a parallelogram perpendicular....

the only time it is perpendicular is when you have a rectangle

you can see that you can cut a traingle of the end of a parallelogram and stick it on the other end to make a rectangle
