OpenStudy (yaryar08):

find (g/f)(x)

OpenStudy (yaryar08):

OpenStudy (reemii):

The definition of the function \((g/f)\) is that its value at \(x\) is : \(g(x)/f(x) = \frac{g(x)}{f(x)}\). There are two possible answers. Which one do you think might that be?

OpenStudy (yaryar08):

D?

OpenStudy (reemii):

I mean, two candidates, .. one will be eliminated.

OpenStudy (reemii):

Yes, D is looking good. (x^2-5) is above, 4x+1 is below. What is the difference between A and D?

OpenStudy (reemii):

.. why would A require \(x\neq -\frac14\)?

OpenStudy (yaryar08):

which is why i went with D , the other part didnt make sense

OpenStudy (yaryar08):

@reemii d isnt right tho

OpenStudy (reemii):

It has something to do with the fraction: there's a denominator. The fraction (g(x)/f(x)) can be computed as long as f(x)≠0 (not dividing by 0).

OpenStudy (reemii):

The condition \(f(x)\neq 0\) is \(4x+1\neq 0\), and that is actually \(x=-\frac14\). So A is the same as D, but it mentions correctly the domain (value -1/4 excluded)..

OpenStudy (reemii):

actually \(x\neq -\frac14\) *!

OpenStudy (yaryar08):

soA was the correct choice?

OpenStudy (reemii):

yes

OpenStudy (yaryar08):

i see thanks

OpenStudy (reemii):

you're welcome.
