OpenStudy (theyankee):

Find Segment KT Fan and medal T.T

OpenStudy (theyankee):

And please show me how you did it! I'm confused with this one :(

OpenStudy (phi):

it looks like you can use the Intersecting Secants Theorem http://mathopenref.com/secantsintersecting.html

OpenStudy (phi):

\[ LM \cdot LM = LK \cdot LT \]

OpenStudy (theyankee):

Alright. 10x10=7xLT? 100=7x14.2857142857 But how do I find KT from that?

OpenStudy (theyankee):

Is kt just half of LT?

OpenStudy (phi):

I would write LT= LK+ KT = 7+x (x is KT, but easier to type)

OpenStudy (theyankee):

Makes sense. so, is KT, or x, 7.2857142857?

OpenStudy (phi):

so you have 10*10 = 7*(7+x)

OpenStudy (phi):

now it is algebra. do you know how to "solve for x" ?

OpenStudy (theyankee):

OH! Alright! Yeah, just a sec.

OpenStudy (phi):

7(7+x) = 100 49 + 7x= 100 7x = 100 - 49 7x = 51

OpenStudy (phi):

x= 51/7

OpenStudy (theyankee):

Alright! x=51/7. So, X=7.28571428571

OpenStudy (phi):

yes
