I just wanted to make you aware that you've posted in the Mathematics section which is rather the wrong area for this question. Maybe history or something of the sort would be a better area to place it. :)
As to your question, I'm going to help you with it anyways. ^.^
If we had to eliminate an option, which would it be?
In a sense, ALL of them could be possible. That is if we were to depend upon the context of a certain situation.
But I think we are mostly just looking for the general common definition that every person would know.
You said your guess was A. While it could be both A or B, its not because that is not the most popularly known definition.
So we have C or D left. Of those two, what would be a better guess? :)
