OpenStudy (kweb2017):

Given that (6,3) is on the graph of f(x), find the corresponding point for the function f(-1/2x).

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

Ok so to get from f(x) to f(-1/2x) we need to do the following: 1. f(x) 2. stretch graph of f(x) parallel to x axis by factor of 2 to get f(1/2x) 3. reflect graph of f(1/2x) in y axis to get f(-1/2x) follow so far?

OpenStudy (kweb2017):

yes

OpenStudy (kweb2017):

so would it be (-12,3)?

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

great :) so now we have (6,3). where x value is 6 and y value is 3. So basically in all those transformations we just did, this value is obviously gonna change. In step 2 we stretched the graph by factor 2 parallel to x axis. This means that the X VALUE has changed. Hence we take

OpenStudy (wcrmelissa2001):

yes :D YAY now I don't have to explain :D
