OpenStudy (pkennedyy):

During the Cambodian genocide under Pol Pot & the Khmer Rogue in 1975-79, What exactly was the "Vietnamese Soul"? I have a general idea, but was hoping someone would be able to shed exactly what constituted or labeled someone to have a "Vietnamese soul."

Any Answer Choices ?

OpenStudy (pkennedyy):

No, this is just an open question.

OpenStudy (jaidenblow123):

wasnt that a bloody war

OpenStudy (pkennedyy):

Was a de-urbanization campaign under Pol Pot who evacuated all cities of Cambodia and forced collectivization farming and sought to return to the days of great antiquity. He wanted to create an agrarian utopia out of Cambodia. He and the elites moved into the capital city in April of 75 following the evacuation of the nearly 2 million people. What would follow would be ethnic cleansing of Muslim-Chams, Vietnamese (main victim) and the Chinese who lived within Cambodia. He pretty much liquidated the family unit, markets etc. Very much followed Stalin's crash industry & Mao's great leap forward, but did so on a much smaller scale. All in all after he was defeated in 1979 by the Vietcong 21% of Cambodia's population was killed.
