http://www.usatestprep.com/modules/gallery/files/98/9808/9808.jpg Consider the two functions shown here. Which function has the greater rate of change? Explain your answer. A) Function 1, because the rate of change is 2. B) Function 2, because the rate of change is ½. C) Function 2, because the rate of change is 7. D) Function 1, because the rate of change is ½ .
Well find the slope of Function 1 first. You get it to be 2/1 or 2. The slope of the second function is 1/2. So which is the greater rate of change?
the first one because the rate of change is 2
Correct! :)
but how did you know the rate of change for the second one was 1/2
See how it says y = 1/2x + 7? The equation for a slope is y = mx+b. M = slope (rate of change) and b is where it starts on the y.
ok can you put it in the formula y=mx+b
yes
It already is. Y = (1/2) x + (7)
ohhhh then what is the m for i never understand that
hi
hello
sup
The m is where it starts on the y axis. If you graph y = 1/2x + 7 you will first place a point at (0,7) (m) and then move up 1 over 2.
ohhhh thanks soooo much
Anytime :)
