http://www.usatestprep.com/modules/gallery/files/11/1188/1188.gif Which equation best represents the line of best fit for the scatterplot? A) y = x + 6 B) y = 2x + 6 C) y = -x + 6 D) y = -2x + 6

OpenStudy (taylor0402):

@ltrout

OpenStudy (ltrout):

So what you would usually do is choose two points that would best fit the line and then put them into this formula (y2-y1)/(x2-x1). The points I would choose are (-1,5) and (3,3).

OpenStudy (taylor0402):

ok thats what i thouht

OpenStudy (taylor0402):

now what do i do?

OpenStudy (ltrout):

Hmm. None of the answer choices are there. One sec.

OpenStudy (ltrout):

Oh. Silly mistake. The points should be (-1, 7) and (3,3). Now just solve the equation (3-7)/(3+1) = -1. So the line so far is y = -x + b and you need to find a B. But since there's only one equation with -x I'm sure you know the answer ;)

OpenStudy (taylor0402):

just checking its c

OpenStudy (ltrout):

Yep.

OpenStudy (ltrout):

I'll brb for a bit. Lemme do some school work then I'll answer questions.
