Re-write your " f(x)= x/2 - 2 and g(x) =2x^2 +x-3"

as    f(x)= x/2 - 2
     +g(x) =2x^2 +x-3
---------------------
You should get:

    (f+g)(x)= ??

combine similar powers of x.  For example, x/2 + x = (3/2) x.
