Look at the factors of the numerator and denominator: 3*x (x + 2) ------------- and think which factors are the same and will divide out. (x - 4)*(x + 2) Exclude the value of x that would make the factor that divides out equal to 0. Take a look at what is left after the division. If there is a variable in the denominator, you will need to exclude any value of x that causes the denominator to be zero.
