chronological order spatial order general to particular particular to general comparison/contrast Your selection of a method will depend on your purpose. If, for example, you decide to write a narrative paragraph, you will use chronological order. Descriptive paragraphs are usually developed using spatial order. The other methods are most often used in expository paragraphs. Choose one of the following titles as a prompt for a topic (or use another, teacher-approved topic). 1. One Long Hour 2. The Advantage of _________ over _________ 3. The Room 4. There's a Need for _________ Today As you write and revise, ask yourself these questions: 1. Do all of the sentences in this paragraph belong here? (unity) 2. Are all of the sentences in this paragraph in the right place? (coherence--method of development) 3. Are all of the sentences in this paragraph smoothly connected together into a whole paragraph? (coherence--use of transitional devices) Once you've made certain that your paragraphs are both unified and coherent, edit your work for problems in grammar and mechanics before submitting it to your teacher.

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

What type of paragraph do you want to write? An narrative, descriptive or expository?

alones (alones):

I have no idea, what each of them means :3

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Okay, ill give you the definitions: Expository Writing: Expository writing is a subject-oriented writing style, in which the main focus of the author is to tell you about a given topic or subject, and leave out his personal opinions. He furnishes you with relevant facts and figures and does not include his opinions. This is one of the most common type of writing styles, which you always see in text books and usually “How –to” articles, in which the author tells you about a given subject, as how to do something. Descriptive Writing: Descriptive writing is a style of writing which focuses on describing a character, an event or a place in great details. It is sometimes poetic in nature in which the author is specifying the details of the event rather than just the information of that event happened. Persuasive Writing: Persuasive writing, unlike „Expository Writing‟, contains the opinions, biasness and justification of the author. Persuasive writing is a type of writing which contains justifications and reasons to make someone believe on the point the writer is talking about. Persuasive writing is for persuading and convincing on your point of view. It is often used in complain letters, when you provide reasons and justifications for your complaint; other copy-writing texts, T.V commercials, affiliate marketing pitches etc. are all different types of persuasive writing, where author is persuading and convincing you on something he wants you to do and/or believe.

alones (alones):

I think Descriptive Writing

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Descriptive paragraphs are usually developed using spatial order. So now you must choose one out of the four topics listed.

alones (alones):

Ooooo lala i choose 3. The Room Do i have to vividly explain it? or can it be mystery

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

I do not know. It doesn't seem to say anything about that. All it says is that the paragraphs need to be unified and coherent.

alones (alones):

Ugh what do i suppose to do than :3

alones (alones):

@KendrickLamar2014 @KendrickLamar2014 @KendrickLamar2014 @KendrickLamar2014

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Now your write your paragraphs. As your writing them, keep in mind to answer the questions that were stated. The questions are: 1. Do all of the sentences in this paragraph belong here? (unity) 2. Are all of the sentences in this paragraph in the right place? (coherence--method of development) 3. Are all of the sentences in this paragraph smoothly connected together into a whole paragraph? (coherence--use of transitional devices)

alones (alones):

Uhh lol what do i do with my topic thought? Do i have to explain it or what

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

Is this really a question?

alones (alones):

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

I really dont know what your supposed to write for the topic you choose or the other topics. Is there anymore information that was listed or that your teacher explained?

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

Only because i'm on a 60 question test

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

^ Then you should be doing the test instead of being on OpenStudy :P

OpenStudy (alivejeremy):

alones (alones):

Kendric Uhh no that's all i have :3

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

alones (alones):

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

alones (alones):

Uhhh kendric sorry btu can u give me an example so i'd be clear on that :3

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Good luck! I wish you the best ^_^

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

The room is pretty general. Its probably left general so that you can make it about any room.

alones (alones):

Do i have to describe the room?

alones (alones):

Oh so basically, i'll comparison/contrast it, with my parents room. and than desctibe it... @KendrickLamar2014 @KendrickLamar2014

alones (alones):

@KendrickLamar2014 whoops i meant to tagg u once :X

alones (alones):

@KendrickLamar2014 I'm done with it.. here what i wrote: Comparison/contrast: 3. The Room. Something, is alike in one room which makes it merge in to a single dot. The room is dark. The curtains are closed. Some of the light is shining through the brown curtains. By the wall stands the nightstand. It has clock on it. The color of the nightstand is light brown too. The room also has three beds; one is bunk bed, and a single bed on another side of the room. They both are brown. Although the bunk bed is giant, the single bed is much smaller. Likewise two people sleep on each bed. But single bed has only one person to sleep on it. The room has walls, it is also brown but I think it brownish-yellow. Besides the wall and the windows that hold the room, there is also a closet. It holds clothes inside of it and the color it has is fulvous. Therefore, we can see that the room has some things in common.

alones (alones):

I don't know lol, my dad said i wrote it like a elementary student, thought i'm old enough :3

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Okay, well there are a few things we can do to make it better. Ill guide you step-by-step :)

alones (alones):

Lol, I send him on email right now.. Should I tell him that was a review?

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

1. "It has clock on it." This should be expressed differently. Its a very simple sentence. 2. "The color of the nightstand is light brown too." "The room has walls, it is also brown but I think it brownish-yellow." Try not to repeat so much like in these two sentences. 3. "But single bed has only one person to sleep on it." This should be expressed differently, maybe with a little bit more info or deleted. 4. "The room has walls, it is also brown but I think it brownish-yellow." Put a little more information on this sentence. 5. "It holds clothes inside of it and the color it has is fulvous." Should be expressed like this: It contains many colorful and unique clothes with many patterns" 6. "Therefore, we can see that the room has some things in common." Change the word "some" with "many", it makes more sense because of the many comparisons you explained.

alones (alones):

Hrmm okay, i'll try to fix that, do u want to see my paragraph with corrections? :3

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Of course :)

alones (alones):

lolol @KendrickLamar2014 sorry, here how i got this ;3 Comparison/contrast: 3. The Room. Something, is alike in one room which makes it merge in to a single dot. The room is dark. The curtains are closed. Some of the light is shining through the brown curtains. By the wall stands the nightstand. It hold the mechanical clock. The room is light brown. Mostly it was painted out of brownish-yellow. Besides the wall and the windows that hold the room, there is also a closet. : It contains many colorful and unique clothes with many patterns. Therefore, we can see that the room has many things in common.
