. A music website tracked the number of new users per day over 1 week. The number of new users for each day of the 7 days was 38, 43, 45, 50, 51, 56, 67. a. What is the MAD of the number of new users per day? Round to the nearest tenth. b. What does the value of the MAD represent? Explain.

OpenStudy (angiedoesschool2275):

Alright so, what do you already know about MAD? :3

OpenStudy (mrdoodbromanguy):

mean absolute deviation i think i means

OpenStudy (angiedoesschool2275):

Correct, let's first begin solving the mean for this problem. Happen to know anything on finding the mean already?

OpenStudy (mrdoodbromanguy):

its the number in the middle right

OpenStudy (angiedoesschool2275):

No, that's the median you're thinking of. The mean is when you add up all of the numbers you are given and then divide the total by the amount of numbers you have.

OpenStudy (angiedoesschool2275):

Let's say I have 5,8, and 9. When I add up all of those numbers I get 22 and I have 3 numbers. So, I am going to divide 3 by 22 to get my mean. Understand?

OpenStudy (mrdoodbromanguy):

i get it now : P

OpenStudy (angiedoesschool2275):

Though for median, you need to line up the numbers in order from least to greatest and cross off one number from each side until you eventually get to the middle number.

OpenStudy (angiedoesschool2275):

So, when we add up 38, 43, 45, 50, 51, 56, and 67, what will our total be? :3

OpenStudy (mrdoodbromanguy):

350?

OpenStudy (angiedoesschool2275):

Correct, now how many numbers do we have?

OpenStudy (mrdoodbromanguy):

and then 350 divided by 7?

OpenStudy (angiedoesschool2275):

Correct again! Now, when we divide 350 by 7, what do we get?

OpenStudy (mrdoodbromanguy):

50?

OpenStudy (angiedoesschool2275):

Correct, alright, now let's move to step 2, distributing our numbers onto a dot plot to find out how far each number is away from the mean. I'll draw it out for you :3

OpenStudy (mrdoodbromanguy):

ok :D
