What similarities do you see between the United States today and the United States of the past? What issues and problems do we continue to grapple with? What successes do we share with Americans in the past? Give specific historical examples to back up your answers.

I saw that you needed help and I found an answer from someone else that was top rated; Our main issue is unemployment, outsourcing, and reducing the national debt. We have been successful with capitalist methods, but too much of a free market. A free market with some government intervention seem to work. A strong gov is needed for a capitalist society. The in late 1800's, many political scandals such as the Tweed Ring and Tammany Hall in NY led to many corrupt but rich men. People like Taft and Roosevelt dissolved big companies to foster competition and get the economy working, since there was almost no middle class in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Hope This Helped : ) @atianaaaa

that only answers the last too questions but thank you

OpenStudy (projectbabyy):

im working on the first two now @atianaaaa

OpenStudy (erinecookie):

Similarities we have from the U.S. today, AND in the past could be that we still have Racism. It isn't as profound as it used to be. But it's definitely still there. We also don't have a very good economy. That should answer the first one in some way. Hope this helps some :)

OpenStudy (atianaaaa):

thank you that does help but do you know anything for the last one ?

OpenStudy (erinecookie):

Hold on let me look

OpenStudy (erinecookie):

hmm well a success is that we continue to grow in terms of society and in the nation. We're slowly learning what equality is and that in itself seems to be a pretty big success. I don't know if thats the answer you're looking for, I'm not a big history buff, but this is what I would put if I had these questions. :)

OpenStudy (atianaaaa):

well it says whats a success do we share with the past

OpenStudy (erinecookie):

Well let me try and put together a better answer. hold on :)

OpenStudy (atianaaaa):

thank you so much

OpenStudy (erinecookie):

Okay, so again, i'm not a history buff, but im trying to put something together. So, this is an opinionated success. In the 1970s, redistribution of wealth was considered to be something that “the communists” did. Today, redistribution of wealth is the official policy of the U.S. government. Redistribution of wealth is basically taxing people. People who make a lot of money, who are considered upper class, pay more taxes that gets distributed to others in terms of welfare. It is viewed as a success to some because it helps to rebuild the economy, eliminating the lower class. It was a success in the 1970's, and it is a success today. but again, it's an opinionated success. Basically another thing about Democratic's VS Republicans. Maybe this will help a little more. If not, I have a website you can go read that should help

OpenStudy (erinecookie):

http://www.infowars.com/28-points-of-comparison-between-1970s-america-and-america-today-which-do-you-think-is-better/ Here's the website. It has a lot of good points that you can build off of.

OpenStudy (atianaaaa):

thank you you helped a lot
