ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

interesting debate topic.. just wanted to know people's thoughts Were the atomic bombings on nagasaki and hiroshoma necessary? Or could they have been avoided

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Yayyy! This is my kinda debate lol! I'm in!

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

History books say that it was necessary, saving millions of both civilian and soldier's lives on both sides

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

I think it was totally necessary!

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

but the Japanese Emperor had given hints on surrendering, they had even had secret messages written, contemplating their surrender

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

they had only one request, for the US to not remove their emperor

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

But he never followed though. He kept it private...never telling anyone...not even his closest advisors.

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

you could argue that it was necessary, but even the land invasion wasn't necessary, the European war had been long won, and the Japanese were surrounded with no more allies

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

their secret messages were sent through, almost a month before germany surrendered

OpenStudy (tomy12345):

It was necessary. President Truman said if we have a weapon lets use it to stop the war without rethinking. Although, it would end up in a huge money usage for just fighting with non-atomic weapons.

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

the defeat was imminent

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

the Japanese ambassadors had failed to make peace with the soviet union, the only country that they were neutral with

OpenStudy (tomy12345):

yup

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Yes. The war was won almost from the start!

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

They were making countries HATE them.......just by losing their trust...

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

The most important factor of Japan's surrender was Soviet Union entering war against them a couple days after hiroshoma, the atomic bombings were not the main reason

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

You are correct! :D

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

...........pups you and I are debating on the same side here.....lol

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

I don't care who entered the war or what. It is the responsibility of a leader to minimize casualties among his own people and maximize damage to the enemy. Harry Truman did the right thing.

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

the war could have been ended on peaceful terms once the soviet union entered the war, because the US were promising things for the emperor, the atomic bombings then further impacted things because it led to the cold war

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

@wwhitlock You are 100% correct!

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

Manchuria had already been invaded

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

Japanese codes had been deciphered, the Japanese were tired of the war and wanted to get out of it by securing negotiating efforts with the soviet union, but failed

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

this shows that they were ready to surrender, the red army entering it would have been the last straw

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

even most top military officials and advisor during that time had said it was not necessary

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

The Cold War, which really was WWIII, started when the Soviets rolled into Germany. They had not intention of giving up any of the territories they occupied during WWII. If they had a chance at getting some of Japan your sushi chef at the local would be speaking Russian

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

If they were ready to surrender....why not do so when they had the chance? Why put more troops into action? Why not hold them back?

OpenStudy (tomy12345):

Can someone plz check my answer below?

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

here are numerous amounts of direct quotes from uncovered diaries/notebooks/whatever http://www.globalresearch.ca/the-real-reason-america-used-nuclear-weapons-against-japan-it-was-not-to-end-the-war-or-save-lives/5308192

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

I think I've told you about my friend Bob, puppies. He celebrated his 20th birthday on Iwo Jima. The fighting was more fierce than anywhere. There is no way they give up without a KO punch

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

^^^^^^^

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

that was fierce, but they had already overtaken all the main islands needed after, japan wanted to keep them off of the mainland

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

those were turning points, midway as well

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

both are equally strong arguments, although with more and more evidence and researching on this, it is looking more like the bombings were indeed not necessary, at least 2 were not needed

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

The second was needed because no response from the first one. We didn't realize how bad communication was. Tokyo didn't really understand what had happened and couldn't really respond. But, given the information that Truman had, he made the best call. It's always easy to go back and look at the history and second guess. We could have negotiated a peace with Japan without the bombs, perhaps. But at what cost and what kind of peace would it be? We could have fought the equivalent of the Korean War in Japan. or who knows how it would have mutated. I like you're evidence. I just am not persuaded, yet.

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

The thing about history is that, they did it, and it worked, but nobody looks for better alternatives, they just say that look, we dropped it, they surrendered, we didn't lose any more people, but we killed a bunch of those people

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

your argument was not well thought out @heyyyyitsholly but i still respect it :P

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

there are many things that history books are either teaching wrong, or are hiding

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

Lol. I was just stating the facts...that I know of lol! I knew I was not going to be staying for long so I did not put up a big "fight" lol

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

no worries :)

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

Your going to make a great History teacher puppies

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

Do you believe there were no better alternatives to it? @wwhitlock I agree that truman was in a tough situation and made the situation he thought was best, but looking back, better situations could have been created

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

lol i dont wanna be a teacher xD

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

But otherwise...I had fun! Harry, tag me in any other history or religious debates you have! But pups you should think about it....

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

I have been thinking about it xD

OpenStudy (heyyyyitsholly):

You would be great!

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

Well you can teach after you get rich. maybe

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

yeah maybe :P

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

there were a couple other topics that I wanted opinions on

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

@ganeshie8 this one
