OpenStudy (matlee):
how can the top be x-12 if the bottom is x-3?
OpenStudy (matlee):
ohh is it because it woudl be subtracting from a posotive number so it would be lower when x is found ? Actually idk
OpenStudy (anthonyym):
x-12 is less than x-3.
Let's substitute 100 for x.
100 - 12 = 88
100 - 3 = 97
OpenStudy (matlee):
ohh ok that makes more sense

Can you stil help me
OpenStudy (anthonyym):
Yeah
OpenStudy (matlee):
I have to write the perimiter as an algerbraic expression
OpenStudy (anthonyym):
So the area of unknown ? side is pretty simple, it's 12 -1.
OpenStudy (anthonyym):
Do you understand how the unknown side is 11.

12-1?
OpenStudy (matlee):
No
OpenStudy (matlee):
Oh yes i do
OpenStudy (matlee):
Can i write the algerbraic expression and you tell me if its right
OpenStudy (matlee):
2x-12 is what i got but idk what the other sides are

OpenStudy (anthonyym):
Ok. 2x is right but I don't believe -12 is right
OpenStudy (matlee):
oh -13
OpenStudy (matlee):
x+x-12-3+12+11+1 oh i must have counted it wrong
OpenStudy (matlee):
2x+9
OpenStudy (anthonyym):
Yes that's right

OpenStudy (matlee):
but what about the rest of the x-12 on the right side
OpenStudy (matlee):
would that be like x-(8/12) ugh im confused
OpenStudy (anthonyym):
12 + x - 12 + 1 + 11 + x - 3
= 2x + 12 - 12 + 11 - 3
= 2x + 9
Where does the 8/12 come from?
OpenStudy (anthonyym):
The perimeter is the sum of all the sides.
The sides are:
12, x - 12, 1, 11, x - 3.
OpenStudy (matlee):
cus u have to do (replace X for 100) (100-12)and since (100-3) is lower then somehow we have to get (100-12) to (x-3) combined

OpenStudy (anthonyym):
Oh yes my mistake
OpenStudy (matlee):
but idk how to do it or if we even need to find it
OpenStudy (anthonyym):
That side would be x - 3 - (x - 12)
OpenStudy (matlee):
-15?

OpenStudy (anthonyym):
Distribute the -1 in front.
x - 3 - (x - 12)
is actually
x - 3 -1(x - 12)
= x - 3 - x + 12
= 9
OpenStudy (matlee):
oh 9?
OpenStudy (anthonyym):
Yes
OpenStudy (anthonyym):
So you can just add 9 to what we had
9 + 2x + 9
OpenStudy (matlee):
ohh that makes sense , i dont know how u got that equation though

x - 3 - (x - 12)
OpenStudy (matlee):
oh nevermind i udnerstsand it now! It takes me a while to look at it
OpenStudy (anthonyym):
Yeah no problem.
It's the same way we found the missing side 11.
12 - 1.
OpenStudy (matlee):
Well thank you anthonyym have a good day
OpenStudy (anthonyym):
You're welcome
